Welcome to Crowd Cymru’s crowdsourcing platform!

This platform, hosted by The National Library of Wales, is where Crowd Cymru volunteers transcribe, tag and describe digitised documents from Welsh archives, making them easier to search and discover online.

Who is Crowd Cymru?

Crowd Cymru is an award-winning bilingual archive volunteering project. With 10 project partners, and over 120 volunteers, we are a volunteering community set up to enrich and improve access to Welsh heritage and histories online. 

Our volunteers are mostly from Wales, but we also have contributors from Canada, Australia, the USA, Denmark and India.  

Since its formation in 2022, Crowd Cymru volunteers have used this platform to make over 6000 pages of archival material more digitally accessible. They have transcribed over 600 letters, diaries and journals, and tagged hundreds of photographs from partner collections.

Volunteering with us  

Anyone over 16 can volunteer with us! Our innovative digital volunteering model makes it particularly suitable for people who are less able to visit archives in person or who need more flexibility due to work commitments, geographical location, health or mobility barriers.

Volunteers contribute in their own time, from their own homes, in a way that works for them. You will be supported with one-to-one training, ongoing support, regular newsletters and online socials. 

A recent survey showed that our volunteers value Crowd Cymru as a supportive, engaging and intellectually stimulating experience. 96% said contributing to the project improved their wellbeing, and 91% learnt new digital skills.
